Rayagada: A woman allegedly delivered her child on the verandah of a primary health centre (PHC) with none to attend to her on Thursday.
According to sources, Namita Khara of Pahandi village under Podapadi panchayat, developed labour pain early this morning following which her family rushed her to Tikiri PHC.
After reaching, they found out that there was no staff present at the hospital. However, Namita’s water broke while waiting at the verandah and she had to deliver on the verandah.
As she delivered a premature baby and that too under extremely unsafe and unhygienic conditions, family members attributed it to alleged poor coordination between the doctors and the staff and said that lack of timely response can put many lives at risk.
They staged an agitation and demanded that the Health department orders a probe into the incident. They also sought action against those guilty of negligence of duty.
