Jagatsinghpur: In a rare incident, a woman gave birth to a 5.5 kg baby girl in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday without undergoing a caesarean section.
As per sources, the delivery which took place at the dstrict headquarters hospital (DHH) in Jagatsinghpur, is being described as a remarkable event.
The woman, who hails from Naugaon area in the district, successfully delivered the baby girl weighing 5.5 kilograms, without any surgical intervention. Identified as Saraswati Nayak, the woman weighs around 114 kilograms. Despite the complications typically associated with such cases, both the mother and the newborn are stated to be in good health.
Doctors said this is perhaps the first time such a high birth weight baby has been delivered naturally in the district. Saraswati was first taken to the local community health centre (CHC) in Naugaon following labour pains. She was later referred to the DHH.
A dedicated medical team managed the delivery without complications. Doctors at the hospital confirmed that this natural birth of a baby with such high weight is an exceptionally rare event not only for the district but also for the entire state.
Medical experts are viewing this as a unique achievement and a possible state-level record, given the absence of surgical aid in a birth of such complexity.
