Dwarka: An elderly woman and her two granddaughters died after a dilapidated three-storey building collapsed in Jam Khambhalia town of Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district amid torrential rain on Tuesday evening.
The victims have been identified as Kesharben Kanjaria (65), Pritiben Kanjaria (15) and Payalben Kanjaria (18).
They were buried under the debris. A team of NDRF carried out rescue operations on a war footing and recovered all three bodies, the new agency ANI reported.
It added that five others trapped in the debris were rescued by locals.
According to reports, Saurashtra region and south Gujarat districts have been receiving heavy rainfall. Umarpada taluka in Surat district recorded 276 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Other areas, including Navsari, Junagadh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Kutch, Dangs, and Tapi districts, also faced severe rain, resulting in flooding.
