Puri: Unidentified miscreants hacked a woman to death in broad daylight at a village in Chandanpur area of Odisha’s Puri district on Monday.
The incident took place at Bhailipurua village under the jurisdiction of Chandanpur police station. The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Baral, who ran a shop in the village.
Sources said the attackers stabbed the woman several times with sharp weapons when she was working in her shop. The attackers fled the scene immediately after committing the crime, while the woman died on the spot.
On being informed, a team of police personnel from Chandanpur reached the spot, seized the body which was sent for postmortem.
Senior police officials and a scientific team later visited the crime spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
Past enmity was suspected to have led to the crime. Further details are awaited.
