Woman Held For Dragging Mother-In-Law On Village Road In Bargarh

Bargarh: A woman of Talapali village of Gaisilat block in Odisha’s Bargarh district, who was arrested by the police Police on Thursday for dragging her 75-year-old mother-in-law on the road in broad daylight in full public glare, was forwarded to the court.

The arrested woman has been identified as Balamati Sahu.

The shocking and barbaric incident came to the knowledge of the police after a video clipping of the incident went viral on the social media.

Talking to media persons, Additional SP, Bargarh, Yashobant Senapati said the incident had taken place at about 8 am on Thursday when the accused severely thrashed her old mother-in-law in her house and later dragged her on the village road.

He said after police came to know about the incident from the social media where a video clipping of the incident was posted, a team of Gaisilat police went to the village and arrested the woman.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had land related disputes with her mother-in-law.

In her reaction, well-known social activist Namrata Chadha said the police should register an attempt to murder case under section 307 of the IPC against the accused. The police also should arrest the husband for not restraining his wife as he has given a silent consent to his wife to commit such heinous act, she pointed out.
