Cuttack: A woman sustained injuries as police beat her up for not wearing face mask in the district on Sunday evening.
The woman was going along with her six-year-old son to a nearby clinic when police stopped her for not wearing face mask in Adashapur Bazaar under Kantapada police station, sources said.
When police told her to pay the penalty for not wearing the mask, the woman said she did not have the required amount and pleaded to let her go. As the police did not listen to her pleas, she offered to take her mobile phone instead of the fine and allow her to go.
But the police reportedly did not pay heed to the woman’s request and beat her up injuring her on the head. Later, she was admitted in a local hospital.
The incident sparked off tension in Adashapur Bazaar as the locals blocked Phulnakhara-Niali state highway for several hours demanding action against the police officials.
The locals withdrew the agitation after senior police officials reached the spot and assured them of action against the erring police officials.
