Balasore: A woman was grievously injured after being attacked by unidentified miscreants at Pratappur village under Oupada police station limits in Balasore district late on Monday.

The victim, identified as Ranjita Behera, was alone in her house when the incident took place. Her husband Purrusottam and son work in Chennai.

According to the police, a group of armed miscreants barged into the women’s house and attacked her with sharp weapons. They fled the spot soon after committing the crime.

The woman, who sustained deep injuries on her head and hands, was later rescued by her neighbours and immediately rushed to a local hospital for treatment. She was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for specialised treatment.

Local residents suspect that the woman was attacked either over past enmity or a love affair. They demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and arrest of the culprits.
