Berhampur: A woman returnee from outside Odisha gave birth to a baby boy while being taken in an ambulance to the hospital on Thursday.
On her arrival, the pregnant woman was accommodated in a quarantine centre in Kodala of Ganjam district as per the Government protocol for coronavirus.
On Wednesday evening, she complained of labour pain and the quarantine centre authorities called an ambulance which arrived at 11 pm. While the woman was being rushed to MKCG Medical and Hospital in Berhampur, she gave birth to a baby boy in the ambulance at about 12.30 am.
The woman and her baby were admitted to MKCG Hospital for post-delivery care. The condition of both of them was stated to be normal.
The hospital sources said they are looked after in a special quarantine centre and their swab samples have been sent for COVID test.
