Woman ‘Kidnapped-Raped’ At Gunpoint In Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped for about 10 days at gunpoint in Kunchinda area of Sambalpur district.

The accused was identified as Somya Ranjan Dharua (28).

According to police sources, the 22-year-old woman was abducted by Dharua on July 21. He took her to his house and raped her for 10 days before she managed to escaped from his clutches on July 30. Her parents had lodged no missing complaint out of fear.

The ordeal, however, did not end here. The accused later kidnapped the woman’s brother-in-law and threatened to kill him. Following his release, the rape survivor reported the incident to Kuchinda police on August 7, the sources added.

Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora said that the accused was arrested on Wednesday and a pistol seized from his possession.

“Medical examination of the woman and the accused has been conducted,” said IIC of Kuchinda Police Station P K Karna.
