According to sources, the fire broke out in the colony near the office of deputy collector at Gunupur in the district in the afternoon. As many as 8 rooms were destroyed in the fire.

Soon after the fire broke out and started spreading, the locals started dousing the fire and informed the Fire Brigade. But a 50-year-old woman, who was inside her house, died reportedly due to suffocation as her family were away and the locals could not save her.

Two others, who were injured in the incident, were rushed to Gunupur Sadar hospital. They sustained burn injuries but their condition was stable.

However, the Fire personnel were able to bring the fire under control. Deputy Collector of Gunupur Lalit Kanhar, additional tehsildar Ansuman Parida, assistant collector Satyajit Nayak along with other officials went to the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
