Bhawanipatna: A woman was killed and eight others sustained serious injuries after a truck hit the auto-rickshaw in which they were returning from a Durga Puja fair in Odisha’s Kalahandi district early on Wednesday, reports said.
The mishap took place at Dangaragada under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station when some residents of Gunduri village were returning home in an auto-rickshaw and a speeding truck rammed the three-wheeler.
According to sources, the victims had gone to witness a fair organised on the occasion of Durga Puja at Depur village.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital by local people who also informed the police. While a woman died, eight other occupants of the auto-rickshaw sustained serious injuries, they said.
A police team rushed to the mishap spot and seized the vehicles. Efforts are on to trace the driver of the truck, who fled the scene soon after the incident.
