Keonjhar: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her relative on the suspicion of practising witchcraft at a village in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
The incident took place late on Saturday when the middle-aged woman was sleeping in her house at Baranga village under Ramachandrapur police limits in the district, sources said.
The deceased woman, identified as Doli Majhi, was allegedly attacked by her sister-in-law, Sininga Majhi.
A relative of Sininga had recently died following some ailment and since then she blaming Doli for the death. She accused the victim of practising witchcraft to kill the relative. She allegedly attacked Doli with a blunt object while she was sleeping.
Doli was rescued by her family members and rushed to a hospital in Anandapur for treatment in critical condition. However, doctors at the health facility declared her dead.
Her family members lodged an FIR on Sunday and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
