Jagatsinghpur: A woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws for dowry at Jalapada village in Jagatsinghpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Jyotshna. She belongs to Khalinga village under Patapur police limits in Ganjam district.
According to sources, Jyotshna had married Netrananda Rout of Jalapada village eight years back. Her family members alleged that her in-laws were torturing her for dowry ever since she git married.
On March 19, her in-laws beat up Jyotshna badly, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
However, she died while undergoing treatment on March 23.
Her in-laws took her body for cremation without informing the police. But Jyotshna’s brother, who works in Bengaluru informed Kujanga police about the matter, following which police rushed to the spot and seized the body for postmortem.
The police have started investigation and detained Netrananda for interrogation.
