Jajpur: Conjugal fight allegedly led a woman to kill her husband by smashing his head with a stone and abscond from their village in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

According to sources, the locals found a man lying dead in a canal near Mangalpur under Sukinda police limits in the district on Friday morning and informed the police.

On arriving at the spot, the police seized the body which had several injury marks and sent it for post-mortem. The locals identified the man as Raju Champia of Pubal village.

Speaking to media on the case, Sylverius Toppo, additional SP, Kalinganagar said it appeared from preliminary investigation that Raju was hit with a heavy object like stone on the head as his left ear has been badly injured. There were also injury marks on other parts of the body and his private part has been severed. However, the exact cause of the death would be known after getting the post-mortem report, he said.

He further said Raju’s wife, who is absconding, is prime suspect in the case. There have been reports of quarrel between the couple earlier. On Thursday night also, the villagers have heard them fighting over some issues. The involvement of other people in the murder is also suspected, he added.

The police have launched a manhunt to trace Raju’s wife and launched investigation into involvement of others in the crime.
