Kendrapada: A woman allegedly killed her husband and walked out of the village with her lover while the funeral pyre was still burning at the cremation ground in Bhamanda village under Rajkanika police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
A video of the same has gone viral on social media.
The deceased has been identified as Rangadhar Das, a priest.
According to sources, the accused woman, identified as Ratnamani, was allegedly in an illicit relationship with one Baina Satpathy of the village for the last four years. He also used to visit her house regularly. When her children learnt about their love affair, Asit and Ratnamani allegedly threatened to kill their father.
“When we got to know about my mother’s affair, my father and I tried to stop her but she thrashed us. My mother and Baina plotted to murder my father. They eloped while the funeral pyre of my father was still burning,” said Ratnamani’s son told the media.
On August 17, locals witnessed a heated argument between Ratnamani and Ranghadhar when he was leaving for the temple. Following this, Rangadhar went missing.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by his brother Gangadhar at Rajkanika police station. After five days, the mutilated body of Rangadhar was recovered near Similimahara canal. The cops later filed a case of unnatural death.
“Further probe will be initiated after we receive the postmortem report,” said IIC of Rajkanika police station.
