Malkangiri: A woman cadre Maoist was killed during an encounter with the security personnel inside Mahupadar forest in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday.
Acting on a tipoff from the intelligence sources about the movement of some Maoists inside Mahupadar forest near Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, the jawans of District Volunteer Force (DVF) had begun combing operation inside the forest in the morning.
During the operation, the Maoists hiding inside the forest opened fire at the DVF personnel who retaliated. After an hour-long crossfire, the Maoists managed to escape. However, a woman Maoist cadre was killed in the encounter.
The DVF personnel later recovered several Maoist articles including a firearm and uniform from inside the forest.
Following the incident, combing operation has been further intensified in the area, sources said.
