Phulbani: A woman Maoist surrendered before SP (Kandhamal) Prateek Singh here on Sunday.
Identifying her as Siju Kahar alias Ripu alias Pinki, a native of Jargisaru village in Kandhamal district, the SP said she was working as the area committee member of KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) division of the CPI (Maoist) and carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head.
Siju had joined the outlawed outfit on November 16, 2016, and was involved in an exchange of fire with security forces at Kanjalgutha in 2017 and the murder of SOG Laxmikant Jani, Singh said.
She decided to leave the outfit since women cadres were not treated well and the Maoists were exploiting poor villager for their own self interest, he added, quoting her.
