Angul: A woman and her minor son were killed while her husband was critically injured as a truck hit their motorcycle in Odisha’s Angul district on Thursday.
According to sources, Rohit Thakur, his wife Manisha Sao and their 4-year-old son Harshad were coming on their bike to Angul from Meramundali in the afternoon.
While they were going on the underpass of the newly constructed overbridge at Budhapanka on National Highway 55, a truck coming on a high speed hit them from behind. All three of them were thrown off the bike and crashed on the ground.
The locals rushed to the spot to help them. But Manisha had died on the spot. They informed the police and sent Harshad and Rohit to the district headquarters hospital at Angul.
Harshad succumbed during treatment while Rohit was in a critical condition, hospital sources said. The family belongs to Chhattisgarh.
The police have seized the truck as its driver fled after the accident. They have also launched a manhunt to trace the driver.
