Cuttack: A woman was killed and her husband critically injured after a truck dashed against their scooter near Durga Mandap in Chauliaganj area of Odisha’s Cuttack city on Thursday.
Sources said the two, who belong to nearby Gatiroutapatna, were proceeding to Cuttack when the truck hit their scooter from the rear in the morning.
Both fell from the vehicle after being hit by the truck. While the woman died on the spot, her husband was critically injured and rushed to hospital.
The accident sparked tension in the locality as locals detained the truck driver and handed him over to police.
Polic seized the truck and detained the driver for further investigation.
In another mishap, at least three people were injured after the bus they were travelling in rammed into a truck in Balasore district in the wee hours.
The incident took place on National Highway No. 16 at Barunagadia Chakk under Basta police limits of the district. The injured passengers were rushed to a hospital nearby for treatment.
The bus carrying over 60 passengers from Bhubaneswar was proceeding towards Digha in West Bengal when the mishap took place. The bus reportedly lost control and hit the truck.
