Koraput: Police have detained a woman for allegedly murdering her minor son in a village of the district on Wednesday night.

The woman is suspected to have killed her three-year-old son while the people of Lukumari village were celebrating Chaiti festival at night. The matter came to light when the woman’s villagers went to her house on Thursday morning and found her son’s body in a pool of blood with neck slit.

On being informed, Koraput SDPO and IIC along with a scientific team went to Lukumari and launched preliminary investigation. The police have detained the woman and were questioning her.

The police officials were also enquiring about the woman’s mental condition from the neighbours. Since the tribals of the village consumed country liquor during the celebration of the festival, the police suspected that she might have committed the crime due to intoxication.
