Woman, Newborn Rescued After Ambulance Wheel Comes Off In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj



Baripada: A woman and her newborn baby had a narrow escape after the rear wheel of an ambulance carrying them nearly detached in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.

According to information, the incident occurred near Gaudiya Matha area in


Udala.

Sources said an ASHA worker had called an to transport a pregnant woman from Nachhipur under Kaptipada police limits to a hospital after she went into labour. However, before the ambulance reached, the woman gave birth to the baby at home.

After reaching the village, ambulance personnel shifted the mother and newborn into the vehicle to take them to the Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH) at Udala. While passing through the Gaudiya Matha area, the nuts of the ambulance’s rear wheel reportedly came loose, causing the tyre to partially detach from the vehicle.

Observing the problem in time, the alert driver immediately stopped the vehicle on the roadside, averting a possible mishap.

The woman and newborn remained inside the stranded ambulance for over 30 minutes before another ambulance was arranged. They were subsequently shifted to the hospital for further medical care.
