Phulbani: A 38-year-old pregnant woman on ventilator support at a COVID hospital gave birth to a baby girl in the Kandhamal district in Odisha on Wednesday. Both the baby and the mother are reportedly stable.
After testing COVID-19 positive, the woman from Kilupanga village under Phulbani block was admitted to the COVID ward of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here recently.
According to hospital sources, the woman was later kept under ventilator support after her condition worsened. However, her SpO2 level had dipped to 55 per cent as she developed labour pain on Tuesday night. It was a major challenge for doctors at the hospital to save her life.
As she complained of labour pain at around 11.45 pm on Tuesday, senior Gynaecologist Satya Narayan Samal and nurse Bijayeeta Digal performed a C-Section for the delivery which was completed successfully. The baby was later shifted to SNCU while the mother was kept in ICU.
Hospital sources said that both the mother and baby are stable and their conditions are being tracked.
