Bhubaneswar: With the alleged rape of an Odia woman in Delhi triggering outrage in Odisha, Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania has said that the incident is being followed up with seriousness and sensitivity.
In a statement, the DGP said that Odisha Police is in touch with the family members of the survivor and are also following up progress of investigation with Delhi counterpart.
Stating that all necessary steps are being taken, he said arrangement was also made to facilitate movement of family members from Bhubaneswar to Delhi.
Meanwhile, Resident Commissioner of Odisha in Delhi, Vishal Gagan has said that a senior woman official is in touch with the survivor and the local police.
As per sources, the woman’s family members have left for New Delhi after the incident came to light.
Meanwhile, Biju Janata Dal launched a scathing attack on the state government over the incident and questioned the silence of Mohan Majhi government on the issue.
Taking to his X handle, BJD Rajya Sabha member Manas Mangaraj derided the government for turning a blind eye to the plight of the distressed woman. “Call it negligence or apathy, the Odisha Government has turned a blind eye to the plight of distressed woman and seems to be busy in holidays,” he said.
Notably, a 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Delhi and found in a semi-conscious state at Sarai Kale Khan in the early hours of October 11. She, who stayed with another woman at Katwaria Sarai, was reportedly asked to leave the residence in August due to some dispute and was forced to stay on the streets of Delhi for several days, news reports quoted police as saying.
