Bhubaneswar: A woman died after being run over by a Hyva truck at Gangapada Chhak on National Highway-16 in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Her 4-year-old son also sustained serious injuries in the accident.
The deceased has been identified as Sasmita Rana (33), a native of Balasore.
According to
sources, the accident took place at around 11 am when the mother-son duo was on their way to Khurda from Bhubaneswar on a scooter. The woman lost control of the two-wheeler while navigating an approach road from the highway, amid ongoing construction of an underpass in the area. The duo fell onto the road, and a closely following Hyva truck ran over the woman, crushing her head. Her 4-year-old son also sustained head injuries and fracture in his limbs and was rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar for treatment.
Info Valley Police later cleared the road to restore traffic and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
