Jajpur: A woman sarpanch allegedly committed suicide by hanging in her house in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday.
As per reports, Sipalata Mallick, sarpanch of Jenapur panchayat, was found hanging by her family in her house at Dalitsahi under Jenapur police limits in the district.
Sipalata’s brother Bholanath Mallick, who was informed by her husband Sukadev Mallick about the suicide, came to the village. Later, Bholanath informed the police.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem and started investigation after registering a case of unnatural death. But what led Sipalata to take the extreme step has not been ascertained from preliminary investigation and all possible angles were being explored, said the police.
Sipalata was elected as sarpanch in 2022 elections. She is survived by a son and a daughter.
