Bhubaneswar: A court in Odisha’s Sundargarh district has sentenced a woman and her paramour to life for the murder of the woman’s husband.
As per the case, Situ Panda and her paramour Biswaranjan Gupta of Brahmanpada in Sundargarh town had killed the former’s husband Gatikrushna Purohit and dumped his body in a forest in Panchapada of Chhattisgarh on the border in 2013.
Chhattisgarh police found the body and following identification, handed it over to Sundargarh Town police station. While the police registered a murder case and started investigation, Situ staged a protest before the police station demanding arrest of the person who had murdered her husband.
However, the police came to know about involvement of Situ and her paramour during investigation and arrested them.
Hearing the witnesses and verifying the evidence produced by the police, Judge Subhadarshi Pattnaik of Sundargarh District and Sessions Court convicted Situ and Biswaranjan and sentenced both of them to life imprisonment.
The court also ordered the district legal services authority to provide an assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the only daughter of convict Situ for her upbringing and education.
