Woman Shoots Self Dead While Taking Selfie With Gun; Father Lodges Complaint

Lucknow: A woman died after she accidentally fired while posing for a selfie with a loaded gun at her matrimonial house in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district on Thursday. The woman’s father though suspects foul play in her death and has lodged a police complaint.

The deceased was identified as 26-year-old Radhika Gupta, who got married to Akash Gupta, son of Rajesh Gupta in May last year. The Gupta family has a small jewellery business.

Posing with the family’s 12-bore single-barrel gun that was kept in a room on the second floor of the house, Radhika decided to click selfies on Thursday.

The newlywed woman allegedly accidentally pulled the trigger and shot herself around 4 pm, her father-in-law said. She was immediately rushed to a hospital, but couldn’t be saved, reported The Times of India.

The firearm has been seized by the police and the deceased woman’s mobile was taken for forensic examination. “We have also recovered a photo of the victim with the gun, said to be clicked seconds before she was dead… We have noticed only a gunshot on the body and prima facie no signs of scuffle were found on the victim’s body,” Shahabad SHO Shivshankar Singh was quoted as saying by TOI.
