Nuapada: A woman was shot dead as she attempted to save her husband at Thutibara village under Komana police limits of Nuapada district on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Kumudini Sabar.
According to sources, one Nilambar Suna had demanded extortion money of Rs 10,000 from Kumudini’s husband Sarat Sahu. When the latter refused to pay the extortion money, Nilambar threatened to shoot him.
However, when he opened fire at Sahu, Kumudini intervened in an attempt to save her husband and the bullet hit her in the stomach. The accused soon fled the spot.
On being informed, Komana Police arrived at the spot and recovered the body. A probe has been initiated into the matter and efforts are on to apprehend the accused.
