Paralakhemundi: A woman sub-inspector (SI) of police was suspended on charges of taking bribe and kidnapping a man in Odisha’s Gajapati district.
As per reports, SI Jyotsna Ray had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs 20,000 from Prerit Majhi of Nudruj village to release his auto-rickshaw when she was posted at Mohana police station in the district around 8 months back. She had seized the vehicle for transporting ganja.
Even after taking the bribe, Jyotsna did not release the auto-rickshaw. This led Prerit to file a complaint against her at the police station on March 25. Following this, on the mediation of then IIC of the police station, she returned the money to Prerit and released his vehicle. After the district SP came to know about it, the SI was transferred to the district headquarters Paralakhemundi.
On April 26, Jyotsna had come to Mohana in connection with a case. At the time, she along with three associates allegedly kidnapped Prerit. They threatened him to write an undertaking mentioning that Jyotsna had not made any demand for the bribe.
But Prerit managed to escape and filed a complaint at Mohana police station about his kidnap by the SI. After the matter came to her knowledge, Gajapati SP S Swati Kumar suspended Jyotsna from services on Monday and ordered a departmental probe.
