Balasore: A woman and her son died due to electrocution at a village in Khaira area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday.
The incident took place when the victims came in contact with a broken service wire near their house at Nahula under Khaira block, sources said.
The deceased have been identified as Tilottama Das (48) and her son Ramachandra Das (28).
A live service wire near Tilottama’s home was broken and had fallen on an iron rod charging it with electricity. Tilottama reportedly stepped on the iron rod and got electrocuted. When she cried for help, her son, Ramachandra came running to help her but got electrocuted in the process.
The villagers rushed the two to the nearby Khaira hospital for treatment where the doctors declared them dead.
The police have sent the bodies for autopsy to Soro Hospital and an investigation into the incident is underway.
