Kendrapada: A woman was tied to a tree and beaten up by some members of a Self Help Group for allegedly selling liquor at Gangapada village in Pattamundai of Kendrapada district on Saturday.
According to reports, one Sasmita Patra had been selling liquor and running a liquor vend in the area since past few days.
The agitators alleged that they were forced to take law into their own hands as the district collector and police did not initiate any step for closure of the illegal liquor vend in the area, despite repeated requests.
The irate women later scuffled with police personnel, who reached the spot and tried to rescue Sasmita.
The situation was brought under control after police detained Sasmita.
