Kamakhyanagar: Tension ran high in Srirampur village under Bhuban Range of Kamakhyanagar sub-division in Dhenkanal district of Odisha after a woman was trampled to death by a wild tusker on Friday morning.
Sources said Kagaj Pani, a woman of the village, had gone to a nullah on the outskirts of the village for a bath when she was attacked and trampled by a wild tusker.
Following information, a team of forest officials, led by the Ranger of Bhubana Forest Range, rushed to the village and assured compensation to the family of the deceased.
The Forest department was keeping a close watch on the movement of a herd of wild elephants near the village a couple of days ago.
However, a tusker of the herd barged in the village this morning and killed the woman.
Meanwhile, local police have sent the body for post-mortem.
