Gajapati: A woman and her two sons drowned in a pond at Garabandha village under Gosani block in Gajapati district on Tuesday night.
According to sources, Banitri Sahukar along with her minor sons Suban (12) and Om (10) had gone to a pond near their house. Banitri’s husband had also gone to answer nature’s call to a nearby place.
The children, who were taking bath in the pond, suddenly slipped into deep waters and cried for help. Banitri attempted to rescue them but failed to save their lives and all three of them drowned to death.
On being informed about the mishap, police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
A case of unnatural death has been registered.
