Cuttack: A 34-year-old woman, who attempted suicide in front of Mahanga police station, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
The deceased, identified as Sashmita Das of Kartang village of Mahanga area, attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol on herself in front of the police station in Cuttack district on August 16 a day after her husband, Shankar Das, was arrested on charges of theft.
She was initially taken to Salepur Community Health Centre with over 50 per cent burns and later shifted to the SCB MCH as her condition worsened.
The woman reportedly took the extreme step when police paid no heed to her pleas, asserting her husband’s innocence.
