Bhubaneswar: A woman, who had died at VIMSAR, Burla, on December 27, was found infected with Omicron on Wednesday.
According to sources, the 55-year-old woman from Agalpur in Odisha’s Balangir district had tested positive for COVID-19. She was admitted to the hospital on December 23 last year following a brain stroke and her sample was sent for genome sequencing.
She, however, died on December 27 before the test report could come in.
Balangir CDMO Dr Snehalata Sahoo said the genome sequencing report that came on Wednesday confirmed that the patient carried Omicron variant.
The CDMO said the exact cause of the woman’s death is being ascertained. After contact tracing, the persons who had come in contact with the patient were made to undergo RT-PCR test, she added.
