Bhubaneswar: In another cyber offence in Bhubaneswar, a woman YouTuber has been duped of Rs 40,000 on the plea of boosting her subscriber number.
As per a complaint filed at Chandrasekharpur police station in the city, the woman, who stays in Niladri Vihar, had started her YouTube channel some time back. She used to upload her videos on cooking of home-made foods in the channel. Despite several improvisations in her videos, the channel could not generate enough subscribers.
A few days back, she came across an advertisement in social media about the ways to increase the number of subscribers of YouTube channels. When she contacted the phone number furnished in the advertisement, she was asked to deposit Rs 40,000 to get the package of instructions.
The woman accordingly made online deposit of the amount to the phone number. Following this, the phone number went dead. After making several calls, when she could not contact the person, the woman realised that she had become a victim of cyber crime and filed the complaint with the police.
The police have registered a case and started investigation to trace the advertiser.
