Woman’s body found stuffed in sack; dowry killing suspected

Kendrapada: Body of a newly-married woman was found stuffed in a sack near Tubihuda village under Sadar police limits in Kendrapada district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Mamina Mallick, a resident of Jajpur.

Suspecting the deceased’s father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law of killing her, a group of villagers barged into their house and thrashed them.

Mamina’s husband Babuli Rout is absconding after the incident.

On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the body and detained the victim’s in-laws for interrogation.

“A case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC. The body has been sent for postmortem. It is suspected that the woman was tortured and murdered for dowry,” a police officer said.

According to reports, Mamina had married Babuli seven months ago after they fell in love while working in a private company at Bhubaneswar. Though Babuli’s family members initially did not accept the marriage, they later allowed her to stay with them. However, they started torturing her for dowry.

Fed up with the frequent violence against her, she took up the matter with the district collector and SP, who shifted her to short stay home. Seven days ago, her sister-in-law brought her back home, reports added.
