Balangir: Tension prevailed in a hospital at Titlagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district on Thursday following the death of a woman patient over alleged medical negligence.
The deceased has been identified as Binodini Chhatar (25), wife of Bimal Chhatar of Sihini village in the district. The woman had recently delivered a stillborn baby and was having complications.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, family members of the deceased alleged that the woman was given the wrong injection. They claimed that Binodini died barely five minutes after the injection was administered.
According to reports, Binodini was pregnant and was admitted to Mother and Child Hospital on February 2. The next day, the family was told that she had delivered a stillborn baby. As Binodini developed some health issues, she was again admitted to the hospital.
However, her condition deteriorated on Thursday and the doctor on duty administered an injection to her in the morning. Minutes later, the woman reportedly died after which angry family members and relatives staged a protest in the hospital.
On being informed, a police team visited the spot and tried to pacify the protesters with assurances of strict action after discussion with medical authorities. Investigation has been initiated and the exact cause of death will be established after getting the postmortem report. a police official said.
