Rourkela: The death of a woman in a road mishap triggered tension at Hockey Chhak in Rourkela on Sunday morning.
A mob of nearly 50 locals staged a road blockade on NH-143, demanding compensation for the bereaved family.
“The district administration should ensure deployment of a traffic constable at the accident-prone Hockey Chhak at the earliest to prevent frequent road mishaps. The agitation will be intensified, if the officials concerned fail to take any step in this regard,” one of the agitators said.
Owing to the blockade, hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for several hours on both sides of the highway that connects Sambalpur with Jharkhand.
Adequate police personnel were deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward situation.
According to information, the woman was walking on the road when a speeding truck ran over her, killing her on the spot.
