Women group to grow food organically on rooftop, backyard

Bhubaneswar: A half-day orientation programme on setting up kitchen garden, using kitchen waste, was recently organised in the meeting hall of Trishakti Mahila Parisad here. As many as 45 women members of the Mahila Parisad attended.

Dr. Jagatbandhu Mohapatra, Project Coordinator, Living Farms shared the objectives of the programme and also the need to consume safe food for a healthy life. He also discussed various foods and its impact on our body, besides using vegetables grown organically.

Puspalata Panda, PRERANA, gave a presentation on Tulsi tea preparation, which helps increas immunity in a person.

She also discussed the various types of vegetables, which can be grown on rooftop and in the backyard. To improve fertility of the soil, she suggested use manure in the fields. She also elaborated on liquid manure preparation.

Following a demonstration on preparing manure, the participants clarified their doubts, besides showing keen interest to establish kitchen garden in their backyard and rooftop.
