Puri: Alleging irregularities in the selection of master book-keeper (MBK) and community resource person (CRP) in Odisha’s Puri district, a large number of angry women locked up the chairman and block development officer (BDO) of Kanas on Monday.
The protesters alleged that irregularities have taken place in the selection process in several Gram Panchayat Level Federations (GPLFs) in the district.
The women alleged that no step has been taken even after the attention of the authorities were drawn to irregularities. As a result, MBKs and CRPs selected through unfair means have been working in many panchayats, they claimed, demanding a thorough probe into the selection process.
Stating that they had submitted a memorandum to senior district officials, the protesters said they have been running from pillar to post for the last four months. If no concrete step is taken over the demand by August 17, a sit-in will be held in front of the block office, they said, alleging that many influential people are involved in the irregularities.
Tension was triggered following the incident and local police reached the spot to tackle the situation.
