Mumbai: Sanjay Dutt’s biopic ‘Sanju’, with Ranbir Kapoor playing the lead, will release on June 29. It delves into different chapters of the actor’s life and also stars Manisha Koirala as his mother.
Speaking about the biopic, Manisha said the film has been demanding. She went through a lot of transformation during the shoot.
The Khamoshi actor also said she would love to have Alia Bhatt or Kangana Ranaut play the lead in her biopic.
Manisha said Alia Bhatt is very natural as a person and she loves Kangana’s work.
She will also be seen with Sanjay in the Hindi remake of 2010 Telegu movie ‘Prasthanam’.
South Indian actor Aditi Seiya, playing Sanjay’s sister Namrata Dutta, is making her debut in Bollywood with the movie.
Aditi said it was difficult for her to play Ranbir’s onscreen sister because he is a ‘heartthrob’. “He is a one-take guy who enhances every scene. He turned an important family scene around by suggesting minor tweaks. I have become his fan after working with him,” she added.
Sanju is the story of the actor from his early days in Bollywood to the present. He was the youngest of three siblings and pampered by his sisters. When he battled drug addiction, and during 1993 Bombay Blasts case, both his sisters Priya and Namrata stood by him.
Another important woman of Sanjay’s life, his wife Maanayata Dutt is being played by Dia Mirza, who has been receiving a lot of appreciation for her work in this movie. When Salman Khan recently spoke about how Sanjay should have starred in the biopic, Dia stood by Ranbir saying no actor themselves play the lead in a biopic. “Moreover, it would be awkward to see Sanjay featured as himself in his biopic. Plus, he is very shy about the biopic itself,’ she said.
She added that the beauty and charm of witnessing one’s life through another person’s performance is what makes it so refreshing.
‘Sanju’ also stars Paresh Rawal, Anushka Sharma and Sonam Kapoor.
