Kendrapada: Hundreds of women blocked the road at Thauri village under Sadar police limits in Kendrapara district on Monday, protesting against illegal sale of liquor in the locality.
The agitating women alleged that despite several complaints, the authorities had failed to curb the illegal trade. They blocked the Angulai-Orat road and demonstrated in front of the liquor sellers.
“They are selling liquor illegally here. We have complained several times earlier. The male members of our family are consuming liquor regularly and abusing us in an inebriated condition. They also beat up their parents and children. They are also selling our ornaments for their daily quota of liquor,” said Saraswati Sethi.
“We have complained several time to the district administration. Liquor sellers were arrested once. On being released, they started selling liquor illegally,” said ward member Priya Ranjan Nayak.
