Bhadrak: A group of women on Thursday ransacked an SUV carrying liquor boxes at Karanapali in Bhadrak district.
The women had a tip-off that the Bolero carrying a huge cache of liquor was heading towards Dhamra from Bhadrak town, following which they intercepted the vehicle. When the liquor traders argued with the women, they ransacked the vehicle and then destroyed the liquor bottles packed in boxes for transportation.
“Despite several requests to the district administration and excise officials since May this year, no step has been initiated by them to stop the rampant illegal liquor business in the locality. Irked over this, we decided to take the matter to our own hands”, an agitator said.
On being informed, a police team reached the spot and assured the agitators that liquor trade will be stopped in the locality after carrying out an investigation into the matter.
The vehicle that has been badly damaged in the attack has been seized by the cops.
