Bhadrak: Strongly opposing illegal sale of liquor, a large number of women staged a unique protest at a village in Dhamnagar area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district in a bid to put a halt to illicit alcohol trade in the area.
As per information, women members of around eight self help groups (SHGs) staged a protest in a novel way in Dalanga panchayat area against illegal sale of liquor.
The protesters stormed the house of a trader who allegedly sells liquor in the area in an illegal manner. The women took out liquor bottles from the house and destroyed the stock asserting that no illegal sale of alcohol will be allowed in the village.
Claiming that the trader has been illegally selling liquor for the last over three years, the women said police failed to take any action against the man despite repeated complaints lodged by the villagers against him.
Stating that so many incidents happened due to liquor sale and drinking in the village, the women said they have decided to oppose any illegal sale of liquor.
Many people are spending all the money on liquor and neglecting their families, they said.
