New Delhi: A day ahead of the next meeting with the Centre, a farmers’ union leader urged the government to let go its “stubbornness” and reiterated that the agitation will continue till the farm laws are withdrawn.
“Today is the 37th day, the government should leave its stubbornness. We won’t go back till laws are taken back. It’s disappointing that farmers are losing their lives. So many farmers are braving the cold yet the government is not taking it seriously,” ANI quoted Onkar Singh as saying.
Thousands of farmers have been demonstrating against the three agricultural laws enacted in September at different points of the Delhi borders since November 26. Six rounds of talks with the government has failed to resolve the deadlock, with the farmers adamant that the laws have to be repealed.
Biting cold and rains have failed to deter them.
“We will demand repealing 3 farm laws in our meeting tomorrow with govt… It’s been raining, so we’re trying to get waterproof tents although they’re not upto govt standard. We’re trying to arrange blankets and warm water for women & elderly,” said Harmeet Singh Kadian, another farmers’ leader.
“Our clothes are soaked due to waterlogging caused by rains. Besides, we are facing difficulties to cook food as rain water has also soaked firewood. We do have an LPG cylinder but not everyone here has it,” said Veerpal Singh, one of the protesting farmers.
