Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Deepali Das for her landslide victory in the Jharsuguda Assembly by-election.
The Chief Minister, who is also the president of the BJD, spoke to Deepali and congratulated her.
While advising Deepali to work for speedy development of Jharsuguda, Naveen also thanked the people of the Assembly constituency for ensuring the victory of the BJD candidate.
It may be noted here that the ruling BJD retained the Jharsuguda Assembly seat with Deepali trouncing Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Tankadhar Tripathy by a whopping margin of 48,721 votes in the by-election held on May 10.
The by-election was necessitated following the murder of Deepali’s father and the then minister Naba Kishore Das allegedly by a policeman on January 29.
The Chief Minister had on May 7 kicked off his campaign for Deepali in Jharsuguda byelection by calling upon the people to give a chance to the daughter of soil to serve them.
Addressing a public meeting at Amilipali in the constituency, Naveen said Deepali, the daughter of former minister Naba Das, is a highly educated girl and has special interest in social service. “I believe that given an opportunity, she would prove to be an efficient leader like her father,” he had said.
