Worker Dies In Hindalco Plant Mishap In Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A worker reportedly died after a heavy material fell on him in Hindalco rolling mill plant at Hirakud in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the mishap took place while the worker, identified as Mantu Khamari of Hirakud town, was working inside the plant. As a crane was shifting heavy material weighing about one ton from one side of the plant to furnace area, it snapped and the material fell on the ground from a height of more than 30 feet.

Mantu, who was busy in the work on the ground, came directly under the material and was crushed under it. Other workers brought him out of the load with much difficulty and rushed him to VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Burla in the district. But the doctors at the hospital declared Mantu brought dead.

On being informed, IIC of Hirakud police station along with SDPO went to the plant and started investigation. They enquired from the workers, who were present during the incident, to ascertain the cause of the mishap.
