Worker Killed In Vedanta Railway Siding Mishap In Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Tension erupted at the Jharsuguda unit of Vedanta Aluminium Limited following the death of a worker at the railway siding on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Mumtaz Khan. He was working as a technician for a firm, Selphin.

According to sources, Khan got trapped between the engine and the bogies, while he was trying to join them, when the goods train suddenly started moving on the tracks. He was initially admitted to Apollo Hospital. He succumbed while being shifted to VIMSAR, Burla.

On being informed, SDPO Kailash Acharya and Jharsuguda inspector-in-charge (IIC) Sabitri Bal reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

In an official statement, VAL said: “There was an unfortunate incident at the railway siding area of the plant wherein one of our workers lost his life. The exact cause of the incident is being investigated. We firmly stand with the bereaved family and are extending all possible support to them.”
