Bhubaneswar: Celebrating the spirit of yuletide, Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a 50ft long and 28ft wide sand art of Santa Claus using 5400 roses on Puri beach in Odisha.
With the help of Sudarsan Sand Art Institute students, the internationally-acclaimed artist completed the sculpture after eight hours of carving and two days of preparation. “We created this sand art where Santa is spreading a message of following COVID guidelines. I hope this will set a new world record,” he wrote.
This piece of art has been picked by BBC in its report: In pictures: World celebrates Christmas. However, something is amiss in the report. Though it carries the name of the photographer, there is no mention of the sand sculptor who created the “giant sand sculpture of Santa Claus on the beach at Bay of Bengal in India’s eastern Odisha State”.
However, it is not the first attempt by the Padma awardee to create such gigantic sculptures of Santa Claus.
In 2018, the internationally-acclaimed artists had created a similar sculpture of 30 feet high and 100 feet width using 10,000 plastic bottles and it had set a record in Best of India Record.
Sudarsan had also created Guinness World Records for building the world’s tallest sandcastle in 2017.
